Mezuzah for Law Enforcement Campaign
Protecting Those Who Protect Us

 

Our Campaign

The mission of the campaign is to provide a mezuzah for every Jewish police officer, firefighter, and soldier who does not yet have one. We ask you to partner with us to honor and protect those who work so hard each day to protect us, and allow them to take part in this special mitzvah. Every donation will go directly to purchasing a mezuzah for a law enforcement official, along with a personal visit to affix the mezuzah to the doorpost of their home or office.

 

What is a Mezuzah?

And you shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

--Deuteronomy 6:9

 

A mezuzah is a parchment scroll on which an expert scribe, or , has handwritten the Shema prayer in its original Hebrew. The scroll is placed in a case and affixed to the doorpost with a special blessing. This not only designates a home as Jewish, reminding us each time we enter of our Jewish heritage and faith in G-d, but the mezuzah also acts as a spiritual security system, offering protection of the home’s inhabitants—whether they are home or away. In fact, on the reverse side of the parchment is written one of the names of G-d: , an acronym for the Hebrew phrase, “Guardian of the doorways of Israel.”
